Old stone walls have become damp because modern cement based mortars have been used to repair the exterior eroded joints. They do not breathe and allow moisture to escape as did the original lime mortars.

Removal of these modern mortars and replacement with traditional mortar allows the walls to dry out. The walls we have re-pointed did not subsequently require the installation of a damp proof course.
